Mary Herz

Medium: Watercolor

After retiring with 34 years spent in education as a business education teacher in Pennsville, the time to do other things was available. An advertisement in the local paper for watercolor lessons turned out to be my invitation to “begin again.” It was that art class that put me on the path to new interests and new possibilities. It was followed by more workshops and classes with a variety of instructors, but some of the best “instruction” and fun has come from painting with Salem County Art League friends as a member of the weekly Open Studio painting group.

Lori Kompa

Medium: Watercolor, Gouache. Acrylic

Lori Kompa is a watercolor illustrator based in Pilesgrove, New Jersey. Painting seriously for the past three years, she focuses on expressive, detailed work that captures both atmosphere and story. Lori likes to use watercolor, gouache, and acrylics in her artwork, layering these mediums to create depth and richness. Lori loves the ocean and enjoys painting ocean scenes, often capturing movement, light, and texture in her work. She grew up on a sheep farm and also enjoys painting sheep, bringing a personal and nostalgic element into many of her pieces. Recently, she has begun working on Masa paper, a rice-like Japanese paper that gives her paintings a unique texture and organic feel. She is an active member of the Salem County Art League, where she proudly serves on the board and supports the Art Sparks program, helping teach youth, special needs individuals, and seniors a variety of hands-on art projects. Her artwork has been exhibited at Gallery 50 in Bridgeton, NJ, and displayed at the local county fair and the Swedesboro Woolwich Historical Society.

Medium: Oils

I love art of all kinds. I’m a painter, crafter, gardener, and a DIYer who just loves to create and explore the arts. I’ve worked in many different mediums, attend various art classes & workshops to sharpen my techniques and extend my knowledge in the arts & craft industry. I mostly enjoy working with oils.

Joy Newland

https://www.joynewlandart.com

Joy majored in art and interior design at UNCG, but did not pursue a career. She dabbled in oil, water color and pastel painting, but her current artistic focus is in alcohol ink painting which allows her to play with a limitless variety of colors, hues and tones from bold and bright to muted and subtle. She loves to experiment with hard and soft edges as the ink transitions from one hue to the next. Some colors look great set off with metallics, while other colors have undertones that are fun to bring out. She has enjoyed pursuing a unique perspective with alcohol inks by creating mosaics. After completing a painting, it is deconstruct by cutting it into squares, rectangles and stripes. Then the painting is designed using those pieces. She has also created 3 -D layered panel pieces and lately started adding mixed media to the alcohol inks.

“I love to look past the obvious colors to see what the shades, movement and design bring to mind. Each picture is a lively walk through my imagination creating an image filled with a variety of contrasting or tone-on-tone colors to bring either intensity, nuances, luminosity, or soft undertones. I like to hear what the viewer imagines they see in a picture.“

Joy is a member of the Salem County Art League, Gallery 50, Juried Associate Artist of Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, Perkins Center, Jersey, Salem County Art Tour and STROBE.

Greg Stett was born and raised in New Jersey, and returned there upon retirement.

Greg dabbled in drawing and cartooning since childhood, it was not until retirement from the biomedical engineering field that he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming an artist. He started by doing portraits of his grandchildren as Christmas presents for his children. He moved on to serene scenes of his favorite places in South Jersey including Cape May and Mannington. He has added Texas scenes having spent most of his career years there.

Pastels are his medium of choice as the pure color pigments capture light in reflections, translucence, a glow or a twinkle helping to bring his love of realism to life.

Greg is a member of the Salem County Art League, Gallery 50, Juried Associate Artist of Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, Perkins Center, The Pastel Society of New Jersey, Salem County Art Tour and STROBE. He splits his time between Cape May and Mannington, New Jersey. Both places offer a never-ending supply of inspiring and wonderful things to paint.
