Senior Citizen Art Show

Open to Salem County Residents 60+

The Salem County Art League proudly hosts the annual Senior Citizen Art Show, celebrating the creativity and talent of Salem County residents aged 60 and older.

Artists are invited to showcase their work in a variety of mediums, with entries divided into both professional and non-professional divisions to ensure fair and inspiring competition.

Each year, first-place winners in every category earn the honor of representing Salem County at the New Jersey State Senior Citizen Art Show, where their artwork is displayed among the best from across the state.

This event not only highlights the artistic achievements of local seniors but also encourages lifelong creativity and community connection through the arts.

2026 Show Dates: June 18-20, 2026
Location: Fenwick Commons Auditorium, Friends Village, 1 Friend’s Drive, Woodstown, NJ

Important Dates

  • Drop-off Artwork -Thursday, June 18- drop off is between 3:30-7:00 pm
  • Reception - Friday, June 19 - The exhibition will open from 4-8 pm, award winners announced at 7pm during reception 6-8pm.
  • Artwork viewing at Friends - Saturday, June 20 10 am-4 pm until Friday, July 31
  • Pickup Artwork – Friday, July 31 at noon-4pm. However, if you are a first-place winner, we will be taking your artwork to the NJ state show.
  • NJ State Senior Show - September 28-November 4 to be held Meadow Lakes Senior Living, 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor, NJ 08520.

If you like paper, print out the 2026 SCAL Senior Show Paper Registration Form, one for each artwork, fill it in manually and bring to the show on June 18 to register 3:30 to 7pm. Or just show up at Friends and we will have the paperwork there.

Rules

  • Any artist from Salem County over 60 may submit artwork to Senior Show
  • An artist can make 3 entries in the show, pick one entry in any of 3 different categories.
  • First place county winners move to state show. (Only one first place entry per person can move to the NJ state show)
  • First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category
  • Categories
    1. Acrylic Painting
    2. Craft- no craft kits
    3. Digital Art-artwork from computer graphic software.
    4. Mixed media – includes collage
    5. Oil painting
    6. Pastels-chalk and oil
    7. Print- including etching, linoleum block, lithograph, woodcut, monoprint, silk screen, collagraph
    8. Photography- color, black and white, digital or film.
    9. Sculpture – 3 dimensions, carved or abstract or figurative
    10. Watercolor Painting-includes gouache
    11. Works on paper – drawn works in graphite, charcoal, color pencil, ink, pen crayon or stylus

Artist Classification

Professional- if meets any 2 following qualifications

  • Sells work through commercial channels
  • Exhibiting in professional gallery for 2 years
  • Has had work selected in juried art show
  • Holds professional membership

Nonprofessional- does not meet 2 qualifications.

Display Rules

  • 2-d (flat artwork) no larger than 30’’ or smaller than 10’’, framed and wired to hang
  • Sculpture or 3d- not to exceed 20’’in width and 36’’ tall, including base securely fastened. Less than 40 lbs.
  • Original works-no copies
  • No kits
  • Take a picture of your work before submitting

Norm Dorrell playing a Glockenspiel.🎶 We are excited to announce that acclaimed musician Norm Dorrell will be performing during the reception at the Salem County Senior Art Show on June 19th at the Fenwick Commons Auditorium, Friends Village, Woodstown!

Norm Dorrell comes from the renowned Dorrell family of artists, educators, and craftsmen and has built an impressive musical career spanning decades. A graduate of Woodstown High School, where he earned every music award the school offered, Norm later performed with the Haddonfield Orchestra and shared the stage with world-renowned musicians including pianist Gary Graffman, violinist Midori, and New York Philharmonic conductor Alan Gilbert.

An accomplished marimba soloist, composer, percussionist, and educator, Norm has performed at prestigious venues including the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. He has been a member of numerous ensembles throughout his career and currently teaches instrumental music in the Princeton Public Schools while continuing to perform as a freelance musician.

2025 Winners

The Salem County Art League recently hosted the Salem County Senior Citizen Art Show. There were 66 entries in the show this year from 43 artists who ranged in age from 61-86 years old.

The Best of Show went to Diane Driessen with pastel painting entitled Sunflower. Below are the results from the show.
